The Wakfs Board has issued the following directive on the last 10 days of Ramadan 2020 to the Trustees of all mosques.

Numerous requests have been made to the Wakfs Board of Sri Lanka by the Muslim community in certain parts of the island, seeking permission to use the mosque loudspeaker system to recite Duas, Salawaath and Bayans by Imaams.

In order to seek the opinion of others, on the matter, the Wakfs Board had a meeting with the Ulamas of the ACJU, Shariah Council and the Supreme Council of Thareequas at the Wakfs Board on 12 May.

It was opined that no such permission should be granted other than AZAN in order to calmly and peacefully complete Ramadan and to request the Muslim Community to engage in religious and spiritual activities at home till Eid.

Accordingly, the Wakfs Board has now decided that no mosque shall use the loudspeaker system for any other purpose than AZAN and for public announcement and/or guidelines in relation to COVID-19 as and when required by the authorities.

The directives of the Wakfs Board issued on 15 March and 20 April remain to be in force and unchanged till further notice.
