UNP, OPP National List MPs yet to be finalised

• EC issues Gazette with SJB, NPP National List MPs’ names
• UNP yet to send a name while OPP matter before AG

The Election Commission yesterday issued the Gazette with the names of the National List MPs of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SBJ) and the National People’s Power (NPP) but the UNP and the monk-led Our People’s Party (OPP) failed to meet the EC deadline and submit the names of their nominees by last evening.

The SJB’s National List MPs are Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Tissa Attanayake, Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, Eran Wickramaratne, Harin Fernando, Mayantha Dissanayake, and Diana Gamage.

The NPP nominee is Harini Amarasuriya.

The UNP, which won a single National seat, is yet to name a nominee while the OPP has sent in two names for the single seat and the matter has been referred to the Attorney General (AG) by the EC for an opinion on who should be named for the seat. The Attorney General has informed the EC to decide on who to appoint to the National List seat of the APP after deciding who the Commission recognizes as the legitimate General Secretary of the party.
