  • Except for SLPP, other parties yet to send in names to EC
  • Party of monks in tussle over who gets single seat it won

Except for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), other parties which won national lists seats are yet to submit the names of their appointees to the Election Commission (EC).

The appointment of a member to the single Nation List seat won by a party of Buddhist monks led by Ven. Athureliya Ratana Thera named Our Power of Peoples’ Party has run into trouble with two of its members claiming the seat. The Central Committee of the Party yesterday endorsed Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to the seat but Party General Secretary Ven. Wedinigama Wimalatissa has sent a letter to the Election Commission nominating himself to the seat.

It is the general secretaries of political parties who send in names of those to be appointed to fill the National List seats.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) which won seven national list positions met with its constituent partners, but no names were finalised.

The TNA and well as the JVP/NPP which won one National List seat each too have not sent in the names of their nominee to the EC so far.
