Tipper driver who ran over three policemen arrested

The tipper truck that had escaped after running over two Police officers at Hakmana Kongala area was found by the Police yesterday while it was hidden in the Kattakaduwa area in the Hungama Police Division.

The driver of the dump truck that caused the accident was also arrested in the Kattakaduwa area last morning, Police said. The suspect is a resident of Hungama. The tipper truck had run over the two Police Constables who were on duty at a Police roadblock on the Matara-Hakmana Road in the Hakmana-Kongala area on Monday night, killing one of the policemen and seriously injuring two other Police officers. The injured Police officers were admitted to the Matara Hospital and are receiving treatment at the ICU. The 36-year-old deceased Police officer attached to the Hakmana Police was a resident of the Walasmulla area. Hakmana Police are conducting further investigations.
