State Minister of Technology and Innovation Thilanga Sumathipala said that a science symposium will be held in the near future to accumulate knowledge and to pass on the findings to the Government.

He made these remarks on the occasion of resuming duties in the New Year 2020, amid pirith chanting performed by the Maha Sangha.

“It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Technology and Innovation to ensure a developed country for the future generations. Technologies are based on scientific experiences, paving the way for social development as well as the country’s prosperity. Therefore our Ministry should provide technical advice to the Government for development through a reliable process,” he said.

“In order to achieve this, we are in the process of organising a science symposium. At this symposium, we hope to revisit the National Research and Development Framework, which has been already formulated, and to devise short-term, mid-term and long-term plans in line with our current position in terms of technology, while focusing on the targets we hope to achieve to be on par with the rest of the world,” Sumathipala added.

Secretary to the Ministry of Technology and Innovation Chinthaka Lokuhetti and heads of affiliated institutions joined in the proceedings.
