A seven-member committee has been appointed to investigate the tense situation that occurred in the Parliament on Wednesday (21), Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said.

The House was in uproar on Wednesday afternoon following a heated exchange of words after Government MPs were displaying placards in the lobby, accusing the previous Government of being unable to prevent the Easter attack, whilst SJB lawmakers were dressed in black, demanding justice for the victims of the bombings.

“What happened yesterday was unfortunate. It’s something we should all be ashamed of,” he told the Parliament yesterday.

The Speaker said that he will take action against the MPs responsible based on the recommendations of the committee.

However, the members of the committee has not been identified as yet.

21 April marked the second anniversary of the Easter attack, which claimed 269 lives and injured over 500 people.
