Health authorities yesterday confirmed six COVID-19 deaths, which pushed the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 409.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an individual from Ambalangoda died of blood poisoning, COVID pneumonia, and acute kidney infection while receiving treatment at the Hambantota District General Hospital. He was 65-years-old. On 13 February, a 62-year-old individual from Nainamadama died of COVID pneumonia, acute diabetes, and high blood pressure while receiving treatment at the Marawila Base Hospital.

The same day, an individual from Vilaoya passed away at the Kotelawala Defence University’s medical faculty hospital, where he was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Moneragala District Hospital. 

The individual was 40-years-old and the cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia and multi-organ dysfunction.

According to health authorities, a 48-year-old individual from Piliyandala died on 11 February of multiple complications due to COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Panadura Base Hospital. On 9 February, an individual from Kochchikade died at home of a stroke associated with acute COVID-19 infection. He was 77-years-old.

Health authorities also confirmed that a 74-year-old individual from Panadura died of COVID pneumonia at his place of residence on 27 January.
