STF recovers 12 assault rifles in Homagama

The Special Task Force (STF) yesterday took in to custody 12 assault rifles from a commercial property in Pitipana, Homagama. 

The find came following an investigation by the STF officers from the Jayawardenapura station, where information from a suspect arrested in Karuwalapitiya, Meegoda, led the officers to the arms cache. 

The 12 weapons, including 11 Type-56 assault rifles and one Type-81 rifle were found concealed in the product storage of the commercial property. The owner of the commercial property has been arrested for possession of illegal weapons. The suspect who led the STF to the find was remanded in relation to the murder of a policemen during the robbery of a jewellery store in Matara in the recent past. The suspect had been out on bail when the STF arrested him.  The Criminal Investigation Division has taken over the investigation in to the arms cache.
