The Czech Republic Government held its Honorary Consuls Meeting in Prague recently. This grand event takes place once in five years with the participation of 225 Honorary Consuls representing Czech Republic world over.

Consul General of the Czech Republic in Sri Lanka Dr. Lohitha Samarawikrema was honoured among the best top 10 at this event for his performance.

Dr. Samarawikrema participated in a one-week session organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs inaugurated by Prime Minister Anreij Babish, Foreign Minister Thomas Petricek and Senate President Jaroslav Kubera and was a great success in terms of building bilateral relationships with the representing countries.

The main focus of the meeting this year was ‘Economic Diplomacy,’ where the concept was to develop businesses through the consuls’ network platform. The concept appeared to be an effective and practical methodology considering the ties that the consuls have in their respective representation countries.

As a result of the status presentation of Sri Lanka by Dr. Samarawikrema, the Czech Republic elevated the travel advisory status to ‘Travel with caution ‘from ‘Essential travel only,’ which is an achievement for Sri Lanka mainly for the tourism industry, travellers and investors.
