SL receives 500,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Five hundred thousand doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived yesterday in the island from the Serum Institute of India.

The order for the vaccines totalled Rs. 510 million and was made through the State Pharmaceutical Corporation. According to a statement issued by the Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals State Ministry, the doses were yesterday handed over to the central drug storage of the Epidemiology Unit.

The country is also expecting COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX facility in the coming week. This would allow the COVID-19 immunisation program to target all persons above the age of 18.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 14,866 persons were vaccinated yesterday, bringing the total number of persons to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to 393,469. A total of 159,997 persons have been vaccinated since 19 February.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 146,327 persons were vaccinated between 29 January - 4 February, 31,760 persons were vaccinated between 5 - 11 February, and 55,385 persons were vaccinated between 12 - 18 February.
