Rs. 25,000 grant to pensioners who missed Feb. registration

The Department of Pensions yesterday remitted Rs. 25,000 each to people eligible but were unable to register for pensions by 1 February.

Pensions Director General Jagath D. Dias issuing a press release stated that many eligible pensioners were unable to register with the Department to receive their pensions due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Under the move, former Government employees and others who are eligible for pensions but failed to register have been paid the allowance based on the latest pension circular issued by the department.

The said circular (4/2020[i]) has been displayed on the Department’s website, the press release added.
