Following the historic 13 December verdict of the Supreme Court, the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) said that this victory is not just a victory against unconstitutional dissolution, but a triumph for Parliamentary democracy itself.

“From the very beginning of the crisis, ACMC said that what President Sirisena did was illegal, and in violation of the constitution. More importantly, it was a serious attack on the democratic principles that we always respected. Today we are proved correct, and we take humble pride in sharing the victory,” said ACMC Leader MP Rishad Bathiudeen yesterday, adding: “This is not just a victory against the dissolution of Parliament, but a triumph for Parliamentary democracy itself and a boost for the 19th Amendment itself. We congratulate all other parties of the UNF, the media and all other activists, for their commitment towards this victory. We praise UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for steadfastly holding to his course of action.

If not for his strong stance, and belief in democratic governance, it could have been different. We now strongly call for the President to return to the correct path - that is, to immediately restore the deposed Cabinet to recommence the activities of the Government, as well as reinstate our legal Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe.”
