Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake yesterday claimed that the Constitutional crisis brewing in the country was Chinese-sponsored, appealing to the Chinese Government to not spend money on buying over Members of Parliament to support Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“This is an international conspiracy. I’m not against China. They want to outright buy this country,” Ranjan Ramanayake said, speaking at a press briefing held in Temple Trees.

The Parliamentarian accused the global superpower of trying to buy over the nation.

“It is true. That is what they have done to a number of countries. That is what they did to Ghana, Tunisia, Angola and Myanmar,” he claimed.

The MP also claimed that the United National Party is now in the process of collecting signatures of the Parliamentarians to demonstrate support garnered by their leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister of the country.

“We have signed a letter showing support for the Prime Minister,” Ramanayake said.

However, he said that although proposals for an impeachment of the President have been floated, no decision has been taken as yet.
