An e-ticketing service for retired government servants was launched yesterday by Sri Lanka Railways (SLR), allowing users to book train tickets via an app instead of the much longer process followed to obtain railway warrants.

According to the usual process, SLR issues annual railway warrants to retired government servants following recommendations from the Grama Niladhari and approval from the Divisional Secretariat. Due to the inefficiency of this process, the Government decided to digitalise the process and introduce e-ticketing via an app, a statement issued by the Passenger Transport Management Ministry said.

In another statement issued yesterday, it was stated that Passenger Transport Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had instructed the SLR General Manager to submit a report on the reason for constant delays in the railway system.
