President Maithripala Sirisena says the Government has implemented many development projects island-wide, allocating a huge amount of money, and the Government was committed to ensuring maximum transparency when implementing development projects.

Participating in a ceremony to open the newly-constructed building at the Elahera District Secretariat, on Saturday, the President recalled that he left the previous Government due to its fraud and corruption. He said the Government, irrespective of political differences, would take legal action against all the wrongdoers if any, while considering it a main characteristic of the concept of good governance.

“We can see some officials are reluctant to take some decisions in the process of development. No state official should be scared to fulfill their respective responsibilities honestly as well as accurately,” President Sirisena said.

The projects being implemented in the Elahera-Bakamuna area under various development fields as well as the projects which are to be implemented in the future in this area are worth around Rs. 3.5 billion. Out of this amount Rs. 1.274 billion has already been invested for various development projects.

The President vested several development projects in the Elahera- Bakamuna area with the public as well as with the students.
