President appoints National Security Advisory Board

  • Board headed by Dr. Amunugama holds first meeting before Sirisena heads to London for son’s graduation ceremony

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday appointed a National Security Advisory Board to look into matters related to national security, the President’s Media Division said. 

Dr. Sarath Amunugama functions as the Chairman of this Board while President’s Counsels Kalinga Indratissa, Nigel Hatch, Attorneys- at-Law Javid Yusuf, Dr. Ram Manikkalingam, Dr. Suren Raghavan are the other members.

The Board is expected to strengthen the process undertaken to ensure the national security by expressing its views and suggestions in an independent manner, said President Sirisena. The Board was convened for the first time on Tuesday under the patronage of the President at the Official Residence of the President.

The meeting was held just before the President left for the United Kingdom on a private visit to attend the graduation ceremony of his son.
