Police to take strict action against online fake news and malicious attacks

The Acting Inspector General of Police has directed the Criminal Investigation Department and all heads of Police Stations to take stern action against those who spread false information or launch malicious attacks on public servants involved in essential services.

According to a press release issued by the Police Media Unit, the IGP has instructed the Police to closely monitor those who unduly criticise State officials and employees who are engaged in the important task of delivering essential services at this time of national crisis.

Action is to be taken against those who issue threats or publish such threats on social media.

The IGP has instructed the Police to arrest those who commit such acts and produce them before court for prosecution.

The Police urges the public to uphold the law and follow public health regulations in place during a time of crisis.
