Police Sergeant caught in Bribery Commission’s net

Officers from the Bribery Commission yesterday arrested a Police Sergeant attached to the Pelmadulla Police for accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000. 

According to the Bribery Commission, the policeman was the Sergeant of the Pelmadulla Police Crimes Unit and was caught in the act outside the Pelmadulla Magistrate’s Court premises.

The suspect had requested a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from an individual who was seeking to obtain a copy of a complaint and a summary of evidence relating to the case against him. 

The commission will produce the suspect in the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court today.
