P’ment gets Easter Attacks Commission report copy

A copy of the report submitted by the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) that probed the Easter Sunday attacks made available to Parliament has been kept in the MPs Library for their perusal, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said yesterday.

“I have received a copy of the report of the CoI on the Easter day attacks and it has been kept in the Parliament library. Any MP can read it,” he said.

He said he expects to receive more copies of the report today. The report comprises of 472 pages, 215 annexures and six volumes. 

The Speaker made the announcement after Government and Opposition MPs got into heated arguments over the failure to make it available to MPs.

The Commission recorded evidence from 457 people over a period of 214 days. Among those who testified before it were former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, top intelligence and police officials.

The Speaker also said that the report of the CoI that probed political victimisation will be submitted soon.
