Over 81,000 persons were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Saturday, with the second dose of AstraZeneca administered to 12,558 persons and the first dose of Sinopharm administered to 68,992 persons.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 265,465 persons have received both doses of AstraZeneca and 2,435 persons have received both doses of Sinopahrm to date. The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 925,242 persons and 348,619 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm.

The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 14,699 persons.

Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera yesterday issued a reminder that persons who are vaccinated can still contract the virus and transmit it to other persons. “If an individual shows COVID-19 like symptoms even after vaccination, they must inform health officials and find out without doubt if they have contracted the virus or not and act accordingly,” he said.

Dr. Samaraweera added that persons under quarantine or at risk of having contracted COVID-19 will not be vaccinated. Persons who show COVID-19 like symptoms will also not be vaccinated.
