Over 1,000 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in Sri Lanka and the total count currently stands at 1,057.
The Epidemiology Unit stated that 67 persons were discharged from hospitals during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday. The new recoveries include 35 from the Welisara Navy Hospital, 12 from the Homagama Base Hospital, six each from the Welikanda Base Hospital and Colombo East Base Hospital, five from the Iranawila Hospital, and three from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID).
The new recoveries have dropped the number of active patients in the country to 791. This includes 134 at the NIID, 107 at the Hambantota District General Hospital, 97 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 96 at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, and 95 at the Teldeniya Base Hospital. A further 88 patients are at the Welisara Navy Hospital, 60 at the Homagama Base Hospital, 48 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, 30 each at the Colombo East Base Hospital and the Iranawila Hospital, and four at the Panagoda Army Hospital.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 74 suspect patients are currently under investigation at various hospitals, including 22 at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital.
With only two new COVID-19 patients identified yesterday, the total number of confirmed patients is 1,859. Of these, 903 are Navy personnel and their close contacts, 640 are Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, and 313 are other local cases.
According to the distribution of confirmed cases by the Epidemiology Unit, 865 were identified among Navy personnel, 594 among overseas arrivals at quarantine centres, and 71 among local communities at quarantine centres. No patients have been identified from the community since 30 April.
The Health Promotion Bureau stated that 78,723 PCR tests have been conducted thus far, including 1,766 tests on Monday.
As for quarantine centres that monitor and test individuals, Military Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickremasinghe stated that two persons left the Punani Quarantine Centre yesterday, having been subjected to a PCR test after completing the quarantine process.
He added that a total of 12,419 persons have left quarantine centres so far and a further 5,136 persons are yet to completed the quarantine process.
The Sri Lanka Navy added that seven persons left the Boossa Quarantine Centre yesterday and that a total of 280 persons have left the centre so far. Fifty-six persons are currently under quarantine at the centre.
