ONUR and Barkeer Markar Center award 900 students of art and essay competition on national unity

A joint endeavour organised by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation and the Barkeer Markar Center for National Unity – the All Island Inter School Art and Essay competition – conducted in all three medium, had more than 1,000 students participating, on the topic of ‘Unity in Diversity is the Strength of Our Nation’ with the aim to promote co-existence and harmony between all communities, tolerance and acceptance of others are values. 

The prize and cash award ceremony was held recently at BMICH. Chief Guest former president and ONUR Chairperson Chandirika Bandaranyake Kumaratunga, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and President of the Barkeer Markar Centre for National Unity former Minister Imtiaz Barkeer Markar, President Secretary, ONUR Director General M.S. Jayasingha participated and awarded the winners. 

Most of the Tamil Medium winners were from North and Eastern provinces school.
