No reports so far of Royal-Thomian Big Match attendees testing positive for COVID-19

• S. Thomas’ College and RCU OBA Secretaries confirm no reports thus far in joint letter

• Fears of an outbreak of corona spread after a SL Airlines pilot who attended match tested positive for COVID -19

In a joint letter, the Secretaries of the Old Boys Association (OBA) of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and the Royal College Union (RCU) confirmed yesterday that at the end of the 14-day period of self-quarantine following the Royal-Thomian cricket match, there have been no reports thus far of anyone having tested positive for COVID-19 as a result of having attended the match. 

The two schools, in a joint statement sent to fellow Thomians and Royalists, requested them to appreciate this fact with sober reflection and not to use social media or any other platform to appear triumphalist or flippant about it.

All those who attended the match on 14 March were requested to self-quarantine after a Sri Lankan Airlines pilot who attended the match on that day tested positive for COVID-19 a few days later.

“As Sri Lankans, we have always stood with our fellow citizens, and we face the scourge of the virulent virus together. All are susceptible to this virus and we need to heed the advice and the guidance of the health authorities of our nation, especially those brave men and women who are risking not only their own health and welfare but also their lives and the lives of their loved ones to take care of those who are sick and vulnerable at this time,” the letter said.
