New guidelines for Muslim burials in view of COVID-19

The Colombo District Masjid Federation in consultation with the Trustees of the five Muslim Burial Grounds have laid down guidelines to be followed for burials in view of the spread of the coronavirus.

The Federation said all participants for burials should be limited to 25 persons and Janaza prayers to be conducted at the closest Masjid to one’s residence till the situation improves.

The list of participants at the funeral are to be submitted to the burial ground office containing names, National Identity Card (NIC) numbers and telephone numbers.

In case of the death of any Muslim due to the coronavirus, the burials will only be allowed at the Maligawatta burial ground, the Federation said.
