Navy on the hunt for sailor after shooting in Kalpitiya kills one

The Navy and Police yesterday were searching for a sailor who is on the run after opening fire at his colleagues this morning, resulting in the death of one.

One Navy Petty Officer was killed and two others injured at a naval detachment in Kandakkuliyam on the Kalpitiya coast when a sailor opened fire at them with his duty firearm earlier last morning.

The sailor is on the run and the Navy and Police have launched a joint operation to net him, the Navy told Daily FT. The two injured sailors are undergoing treatment at the Puttalam Base Hospital and at the National Hospital in Colombo. According to the Navy, an investigation has been launched into the incident.
