National Shoora Council (NSC), the umbrella body of 18 Muslim organisations of national reach and many influential individuals, in a statement vehemently condemned the dastardly acts of bombing and other acts of violence carried out targeting three churches, three hotels and other places on this Easter Sunday.

NSC President J. Tariq Mahmud, in the statement issued, said: “We express our condolences to the bereaved families and Christian brethren for losing their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured victims of this dastardly act intent on seeding communal/religious conflict and destroying national economy.

“Surely, the perpetrators of these dastardly acts are enemies of our country whose aim is to destroy its reconciling social fabric and reviving economy. The methodology of attack and the scale of destruction caused show the hallmarks that the perpetrators wanted to set the country on a new cycle of violence to put all post war peace building and development efforts in disarray.

“NSC urges the authorities not to leave any stone unturned in its efforts to apprehend the culprits, whoever they may be and to whatever part of the populace they may belong to and deal with them quickly and effectively according to law. “Furthermore, NSC expresses its wholehearted support and cooperation to the authorities in their quest to deal with this challenge and restore peace, amity and stability in the country.

“NSC fervently appeals to all countrymen and women of all races and denominations to unite as one people to stand against this dastardly act that selected the Christian brethren this time and the economic interests of the country in their diabolical plan to destabilise the country. Let us all unite as one people and mobilise against any forces that are inimical to our country and our people as responsible citizens to fight this.”
