Mohan Samaranayake assumes duties as new Government Information DG

Senior journalist Mohan Samaranayake assumed duties as the Director General of the Department of Government Information yesterday.

With four decades of local and foreign experience in the field of journalism, Samaranayake entered the profession as an Assistant Editor for Dawasa newspaper. 

He served at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and held the position of News Director at Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) for nearly five years. He later served as the Head of the United Nations Information Centre in Colombo.

He also served as the President’s Spokesman prior to the appointment. Samaranayake was appointed as the new Director General of the Department of Government Information on 9 April.  Speaking to his staff, Samaranayake said that the Government Information Department must strive to meet its expectations.

“Every effort will be made to ensure the expected role of the Department of Government Information by properly publicising accurate information,” he said.
