Medical student in Jaffna murdered

A 29-year-old medical student at the Jaffna University was found murdered last yesterday near Pannai Lagoon in Jaffna. It is reported that the victim was stabbed to death. 

According to the Police, an autopsy will be carried out by the Judicial Medial Officer today.  

A 30-year-old Army solider has been taken in to custody after locals prevented him from leaving the area. 

According to military spokesman Brig. Chandana Wickremaratna, the soldier and the deceased were married in 2015. Both the victim and suspect are residents of Beruwala.  The names of the victim and suspect were not released by the Police. 

The Military Police and the Jaffna Police Division are investigating the crime separately.
