The Navy and the Kankesanthurai Police in a joint operation have recovered 360 kilograms of Kerala Cannabis (ganja) floating in the seas off Kankesanthurai beach – Jaffna, the police said yesterday.

Sri Lanka Navy troops of the Northern Naval Command and the officers of the Kankesanthurai Police conducted a joint search operation and found the stock of Kerala cannabis floating in the sea off the Kankesanthurai beach.

The Police say they suspect that the smugglers had fled after dumping the Kerala cannabis stock brought from India in boats in Kankesanthurai due to naval patrol in the area. The Kankesanthurai Police further stated that after the consignment of Kerala cannabis was dumped on the Kankesanthurai beach, the Kerala cannabis smugglers in the North had planned to smuggle it in and the police have launched an investigation to find the smugglers. It is yet to be ascertained who brought the Kerala cannabis stock.
