Four hospitalised following inmate clash at Welikada

Four individuals were hospitalised yesterday following a clash within the female ward of the Welikada Magazine Prison.

According to police sources, a clash had broken out among the inmates of the female prison ward which had resulted in four persons being severely injured. 

The injured were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital where they are currently being treated. 

The scuffle had erupted following a protest by the female inmates early last afternoon. 

Police sources said that around 10 female inmates had managed to climb their way to the top of the Magazine prison roof to carry out a protest. 

The inmates had been protesting the transfer of a female jailor by the name of Disna Kariyawasam. 

However, the protestors had negotiated with the authorities and the issue had been resolved after which the protest had concluded.
