Five COVID-19 deaths bring total to 356

Five COVID-19 deaths were confirmed by health authorities yesterday, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 356.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an individual from Pamunugama died of COVID pneumonia and the worsening of a wound on Saturday while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital. The 75-year-old individual was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka after testing positive for COVID-19.

An 84-year-old individual from Dummalasuriya also passed away on Saturday. Having tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, she was transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital, where she died of COVID pneumonia, blood poisoning, and acute kidney disease.

On Friday, an individual from Wakwella passed away while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Disease, where she was transferred from the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. The cause of death is cited as trauma of blood poisoning and COVID pneumonia. She was 66 years old.

According to health authorities, a 61-year-old individual from Colombo 15 died of COVID pneumonia and exacerbated asthma at home on 4 February.

The same day, a 66-year-old individual from Welimada died of COVID pneumonia at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital, where she was transferred from the Boralanda Hospital.
