Five COVID-19 deaths bring fatalities to 450

Health authorities yesterday confirmed five COVID-19 deaths, which brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 450.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an 83-year-old individual from Minunwagoda passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia and acute kidney damage.

On 20 February, a 33-year-old individual from Dunagaha died of COVID-19 with acute diabetes and acute kidney disease while receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

The same day, an individual from Colombo 12 died of COVID-19 with blood poisoning and an acute urinary tract infection. The individual was 69 years old and passed away while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

Health authorities also stated that a 77-year-old individual from Colombo 13 died of COVID pneumonia, acute diabetes and high blood pressure at home on 20 February.

On 19 February a resident of Nugegoda died of COVID pneumonia at home. The individual was 82 years old.
