Five COVID-19 deaths bring death toll to 520

Health authorities yesterday confirmed five more COVID-19 deaths, which brings the country’s COVID-19 fatalities to 520.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government information, a 68-year-old individual from Dehiwala tested positive for COVID-19 at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital and was admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). However, he died of COVID pneumonia yesterday.

An 80-year-old individual from Mattegoda died while receiving treatment at the Homagama Base Hospital yesterday. The cause of death was cited as COVID pneumonia.

An individual from Bibila also died yesterday. According to the Department of Government Information, the individual was 67 years old and tested positive for COVID-19 at the Hambantota Base Hospital. He was then admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital, where he died of pneumonia and COVID-19.

On 9 March, a 63-year-old individual from Angulana died of trauma of blood poisoning, heart disease, and COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital, where she was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

An individual from Nawalapitiya tested positive for the virus at the Nawalapitiya District Hospital, was admitted to the Teldeniya Base Hospital and was transferred back to the Nawalapitiya District Hospital. She died of pneumonia and COVID-19 on 8 March. The individual was 56 years old.
