First phase of Colombo’s pavement project completed

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday declared open the completed first phase of the project to construct pavements for pedestrians to use in order to avoid the main roads and heavy traffic congestion in the Colombo Fort and Pettah areas. 

The first phase of the project consists of the constriction of the roadway and pavement from Lake House along D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha to Olcott Mawatha.

The first phase of the project was completed at a cost of Rs. 17 million under the Metro Colombo Urban Development Project under the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development. The Sri Lanka Navy provided labour for this project.

President Sirisena declared the pavement open for public use.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Secretary to the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development Nihal Rupasinghe were among those present at the occasion.
