Dr. Saj Mendis presents open copy of credentials to Korean Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs Lim Ki-mo is presented with the Open Copy of the Letter of Credence by Ambassador-designate Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul

Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis presented the Open Copy of his Letter of Credence to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is in-charge of Protocol Affairs at the Ministry, Lim Ki-mo, before the formal and ceremonial presentation of Credentials to the President of the Republic of Korea. The Deputy Minister stated that the formal ceremony of presentation of Credentials to the President of the Republic of Korea would take place, quite soon, since this high profile ceremony is held once in three months. 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs, Lim, wished the Ambassador-designate success on his new assignment as the Envoy of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea. The Deputy Minister further assured Dr. Mendis the fullest support, cooperation and facilitation, in all spheres and provinces, in further strengthening, widening and elevating the already strong bilateral relations between the two countries.  Ambassador Mendis commended proactive and constructive efforts, which are being undertaken in order to establish peace and stability in the region, and extended warm greetings to Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs for the continued progress and prosperity of the country and the peoples of the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Mendis, during the congenial and amiable discussion after handing over the Copy of the Letter of Credence, stated that many a nation could learn and emulate the unprecedented economic, commercial and manufacturing success and advancement of the Republic of Korea within a period of a couple of decades. He also added that according to the respected business media, ‘Bloomberg’, the Republic of Korea is being chosen as the most innovative nation in the world surpassing most of the traditional and conventional developed economies.

Today, the Republic of Korea is the fourth largest economy in Asia and the 11th largest in the world with a total GDP of $ 1.73 trillion. Further, it is the 5th largest exporter of goods and services in the world behind China, Germany, the US and Japan respectively. The Republic of Korea is one of the leading economic and trading partners of Sri Lanka.  From the Sri Lankan side, Sasanga Nikapitiya, Head of Chancery and First Secretary of the Embassy, was present at the meeting between the Deputy Minister and Dr. Mendis. Ambassador Dr. Mendis was transferred to the Republic of Korea from the Kingdom of Bahrain, where he served as the Ambassador.
