China calls for more security for Embassy, institutions, enterprises and citizens

China has reiterated a call to the Sri Lanka Government to further strengthen the security of the Chinese Embassy, institutions, enterprises and its citizens, including the site security of the Sino-Sri Lanka economic and trade cooperation projects.

The request has been made in a note sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and the Police Headquarters, stating that the security situation in Sri Lanka was continuing to be critical and hence more security was needed for Chinese interests in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka has informed that China is an important and friendly partner and has contributed greatly to the economic and social development of Sri Lanka in various major projects in Sri Lanka and assured that it will immediately coordinate the relevant departments to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions.

The heads of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence and the Army have also emphasised the great importance to China-related projects security and pledged the fullest cooperation as much as possible.

The Chinese Embassy will also be fully committed to the security of Chinese personnel and institutions in Sri Lanka, the Embassy said in a press release.
