Economy.lk is a premier platform dedicated to disseminating key insights to economic and financial issues, trade, policies and views from key influential individuals, both in the local and global business sphere.

It is curated by the Secretariat of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC). With the aim of encouraging youth engagement in trade, investment and service discussions, economy.lk is planning to conduct an essay competition for university students in Sri Lanka (both government and private) between the ages 18-25. Participants would have to write 800-1000 words on the topic ‘Importance of Free Trade Agreements for Investment and Business in Sri Lanka’, as Sri Lanka recently concluded its first comprehensive FTA with Singapore and is in the process of negotiating comprehensive FTAs with India, China and Thailand.

The essays will be judged by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) of the CCC and five winners will be selected based on the quality of content. The top five will each win a free pass to the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2018 where they will be awarded a certificate and a cash prize. Furthermore, one selected winner will be entitled to a three-month internship at the EIU. As future leaders of Sri Lanka, the engagement of youth in the country’s economic discussion is valuable. This competition serves as a platform to apply their capacity for critical thinking. Furthermore, the internship will provide the selected candidate exposure with the opportunity to meet Sri Lanka’s leading corporate sector professionals and to work closely with policymakers and other external stakeholders.

Entry guidelines and requirements are available at www.economy.lk, and the submission deadline is 31 August at 11.59 p.m. For further information contact 011 5588 844/ 077 9888 126.
