Five COVID-19-related deaths confirmed by health authorities yesterday brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 630.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 39-year-old individual from Gampaha tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. He was then transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), where he died of trauma of blood poisoning due to COVID pneumonia on 20 April.

A 57-year-old individual from Kelaniya also died on 20 April while receiving treatment at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia, trauma of blood poisoning, acute kidney damage.

On 19 April, an individual from Ja-Ela died of COVID pneumonia, a heart attack and acute kidney damage while receiving treatment at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The individual was 80 years old.

A 66-year-old individual from Ratnapura was receiving treatment at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital when he tested positive for COVID-19 and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. On 19 April, the individual died of COVID pneumonia, diabetes, and high blood lipid levels.

The Department of Government Information states that an individual from Sewanagala tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Ambilipitiya Base Hospital and was transferred to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. On 18 April, the individual died of COVID pneumonia with blood poisoning and acute kidney damage. He was 75 years old.
