Five COVID-19 deaths were yesterday confirmed by health authorities taking the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 566.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 63-year-old individual from Kandana was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital after testing positive for the virus at the Colombo East Base Hospital. However, he died of trauma of blood poisoning caused by COVID pneumonia yesterday.

On 28 March, a 45-year-old individual from Colombo 15 died while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The cause of death was cited as COVID pneumonia and substance abuse over a period of 20 years.

The same day, an individual from Ethul Kotte died at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The individual died of COVID pneumonia, heart disease, and acute kidney damage. He was 70 years old.

The Department of Government Information stated that a 55-year-old individual from Kalutara South tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Bandaragama Base Hospital and was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases. On 2 February, he died of chronic liver disease, liver failure, and COVID pneumonia.

On 1 February, an individual from Colombo 13 died at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The cause of death was cited as a haemorrhagic stroke and COVID pneumonia. The individual was 67 years old.
