COVID-19 fatalities rise to 561 with 2 more deaths confirmed

Two COVID-19 deaths confirmed by health authorities yesterday brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 561.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena yesterday confirmed that a death that occurred on 1 February as well as one that occurred on 29 December 2020 were COVID-19-related. The death that occurred on 1 February was that of a 60-year-old individual from Colombo 15 who died while being admitted to the Mawanella Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19 and chronic kidney disease.

A 35-year-old individual from Mawanella died on 29 December 2020 while being admitted to the Mawanella Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19 and acute diabetes.
