COVID-19 death toll rises to 99

The total number of COVID-19 deaths reported in the island yesterday rose to 99, with health authorities confirming that three persons had died of the disease.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, the deaths are of two individuals from Colombo and one from Peliyagoda.

An 87-year-old man from Colombo 8 passed away at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka yesterday. He died of a bacterial infection associated with COVID-19 and exacerbated chronic lung disease.

A resident of Bambalapitiya died on 25 November while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital. He was 80 years old and died of high blood pressure, pneumonia and a heart attack associated with COVID-19.

The individual from Peliyagoda was 73 years old and died at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka on 23 November. The cause of death is cited as high-blood pressure, diabetes and a stroke associated with COVID-19.
