COVID-19 death toll rises to 316

A total of 316 COVID-19-related deaths have been confirmed by health authorities to date, including three deaths confirmed yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, only one of the three deaths occurred yesterday. The individual was 38-years-old and a resident of Colombo-8. He was identified as COVID-19 positive while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and was transferred to the Welisara Chest Hospital. However, he died of a lung infection associated with COVID-19 yesterday.

The previous day, a 69-year-old individual from Anguruwathota died while being admitted to the Horana Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as a chest infection associated with COVID-19 and high blood pressure. On 27 January, an individual from Kaduwela died of COVID pneumonia and heart dysfunction while receiving treatment at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital. She was 68-years-old.
