COVID-19 death toll rises to 278

Health authorities yesterday confirmed two COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 death toll to 278.

According to the Department of Government Information, an 82-year-old individual from Colombo 8 passed away yesterday. He tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Sri Lanka and was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), where he died of COVID pneumonia.

A 51-year-old individual from Homagama also died yesterday. According to health authorities, she tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the National Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. However, she died of COVID pneumonia, blood poisoning, and kidney dysfunction.
