COVID-19 death toll rises to 225

Health authorities yesterday confirmed three COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 death toll to 225.

According to the Department of Government Information, a resident of Colombo 14 died of COVID pneumonia and shock induced by blood poisoning yesterday. The individual was 75 years old and was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to the Rambukkana District Hospital after testing positive for the virus.

The previous day, a 72-year-old man from Ratnapura died of COVID pneumonia while being admitted to the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital.

On 6 January, an 87-year-old resident of Horana died at home. The cause of death is cited as a lung infection associated with COVID-19 and heart disease.
