COVID-19 death toll rises to 222

A total of 222 persons have died of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka to date, with health authorities yesterday confirming three COVID-19 deaths.

According to the Department of Government Information, a 62-year-old resident of Beruwala was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) from the Iranawila Base Hospital, where he yesterday died of COVID pneumonia, secondary blood poisoning and a kidney infection. An individual from Meethirigala died on Wednesday while receiving treatment at the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital. He was 53 years old and died of COVID-19 and epilepsy.

An 89-year-old individual from Colombo 14 also died on Wednesday. According to the Department of Government Information, the individual died of COVID pneumonia at home.
