Two hundred and seventeen persons were released from quarantine yesterday after testing negative for COVID-19 in PCR tests and completing the mandated quarantine program, and no one tested positive for COVID-19, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 reported yesterday.  

According to the Health Promotions Bureau, no one tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, keeping the total number of confirmed cases to 2,814, with 412 infected patients under medical care. According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 58 persons recovered and were discharged from care, pushing the total number of persons who have recovered to 2391. 11 have succumbed to the virus.

A total of 1170 PCR tests were conducted on 30 July, the National Operational Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) reported. According to the NOCPOC, the Kandakadu cluster has reached 599 infected patients. 

Forty-eight patients suspected to have COVID-19 symptoms are being monitored by health authorities, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry reported. Forty-four persons were repatriated from Doha, Japan, and Chennai yesterday, and were moved to quarantine centres after being subjected to PCR test for COVID-19, the NOCPC said. Of the 44, 31 were repatriated from Doha, six from Japan and seven from Chennai.  412 patients remain under care at eight specialised hospitals as of last evening. Of the patients under treatment, 39 are being treated at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (NIID). The Kandakadu treatment centre treats the highest number of patients, with 233 in care, while Base Hospital Welikanda treats 48, and the Kattankudy Base Hospital and the Army Hospital in Panagoda each treating 21 and 14 COVID-19 patients respectively.

Those who returned home from quarantine over the weekend were from six quarantine centres located around the island, the NOCPOC said. 2,100 persons remain in quarantine in 31 centres managed by the military. A total of 28,540 persons have completed the quarantine program and returned home from centres across the island thus far, the NOCPC added.
