COVID-19: 774 more test positive

  • 6,620 COVD-19 patients remain under treatment
  • 9,089 remain in quarantine centres

A total of 774 persons tested positive COVID-19 virus yesterday, with 764 patients being contacts of the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster and 10 detected from the Prisons cluster, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said.

According to the Department of the Government Information, yesterday's count of 744 pushes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients to 75,965 of which 72,401 are from the Peliyagoda cluster. The number of recoveries has reached 69,411 with 865 being released from treatment by mid-day yesterday. The patients who recovered had been discharged from treatment and returned home yesterday, the NOCPC added.

A total of 6,620 infected patients remains under treatment. The highest number of patients, 386, are being treated at the Bingiriya treatment centre, the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said.  

According to the NOCPC, 9,089 persons are undergoing the mandatory quarantine program at 92 quarantine centres managed by the armed forces. A total of 16,866 PCR tests were conducted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, six COVID-related deaths were  recorded yesterday, increasing the total death toll to 403.
