COI probing political victimisation during ‘Yahapalanaya’ years gets four months extension

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday extended the term of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) appointed to look into political victimisation by four months. The terms of the COI which ended on 9 July was extended till 9 November, for submission of the final report on completion of the tasks assigned to the Commission appointed on 9 January. The COI was appointed to inquire into and obtain information in relation to alleged political victimisation of public officers, employees of State corporations, members of the Armed Forces, and the Police Service who held posts during the period commencing 8 January 2015 and ending 16 November 2019.

The Commission is headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyrathne, while its other members are retired Court of Appeal Judge Daya Chandrasiri Jayathilaka and retired Police Inspector-General Chandra Fernando.
