Ambassador Jayatilleka attends Diwali celebration in Moscow

On 2 November, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka accompanied by Sanja Jayatilleka attended the celebration of Diwali, at the invitation of Ambassador of India Venkatesh Varma. 

Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Indians, which symbolises the ultimate victory of good over evil, of brightness over darkness. The celebration of the Festival of Lights was organised by the Embassy of India in association with the various Indian community organisations and took place at the RUDN People’s Friendship University of Russia. 

The event gathered more than 1,000 people including heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow and their spouses, Russian State Authorities and other Russian and Indian guests. 

The celebration commenced with a concert dedicated to the varied Diwali festivities across different parts of India, with national dances and singing. The performance was followed by the awarding ceremony for children of the Indian community for achievements in different spheres. At the end of the evening the guests were invited to enjoy the display of fireworks and the Indian national cuisine.
