9 more added to COVID toll; Prisoners cleared

Nine Sri Lankans who arrived from Saudi Arabia tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the cumulative total in Sri Lanka to 2,093, officials said.

They also said all 315 inmates from the Welikada Prison tested negative for COVID-19 after PCR tests were carried out.

Following the sole confirmed case of COVID-19, the Commissioner General of Prisons said it has been decided not to allow visitors to all prisons in the country.

On the positive side, another 12 COVID-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospital yesterday, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 1,967, the Health Ministry said.
